When all you have are the clothes on your back and the love of your life next to you, you start to realize what really matters.

Three weeks in Dana Scully began to question what really did matter and why she was still here. It had stopped raining only hours earlier as Dana sat on the bed of the small motel room in Utah; staring at the walls, walls with wallpaper and too many flowers to actually be pleasant. Maybe that’s why she couldn’t sleep; the wallpaper was too loud. Or maybe it was the two million other things buzzing through her mind. Every night a different motel, not even hotels because those required a check or credit card which they could not give. They had no identities. They were shadows in the night. They traveled at night. Slept during the day and hadn’t made love in three weeks. Not since their first night back together. One would think after so many months of separation they’d be tearing each others clothes off, but there was a distance that one could not explain. Talking had become yes or no answers… “do we stop here for lunch?” “yes.” “no.” A Wal-Mart negligee and Hanes panties were the current clothes on her back, two pairs of jeans and sneakers. The clothes she left her life in were in a Wal-Mart bag, she just couldn’t bear to look at them so they stayed in the car under the backseat. They weren’t her. Not anymore. Now she was a woman without a name. Without a job. Without a home.  Only the clothes on her back and the man by her side.

Taking her eyes off the hideous wallpaper she turned to him, on his back, mouth slightly open, hint of stubble and a bare chest. It was June and much too hot to wear much clothing, which made their darting from place to place so much easier. No real baggage other than the constant pain in both their hearts. He could sleep – he always could – she was the one whose mind would not allow her to forget regrets– particularly one that left a permanent hole in her heart.

She placed her hand on his bare chest, feeling his heart beating under it. Closing her eyes and focusing on the feel and beat under her palm. After a few moments another hand was on hers she opened her eyes to see Mulder looking at her. He blinked a few times, licked his lips but did not speak. She did the same and he squeezed her hand holding it firmer against his chest as he slowly sat up, never letting his eyes leave hers; as if time had stopped their heads moved closer together, ever so slowly before their lips touched igniting a spark that had not been lit for some time. His hands moved to her shoulders, sliding the straps of the cheap negligee down her arms causing it to quickly fall onto her lap. He told her it was too big for her tiny frame. He was right. He was always right. As the kiss deepened his hands moved to her breasts, kneading them as his tongue slipped between her lips. Mulder’s hands then moved to her waist, pulling her to him as he slowly lay her down on the bed, her head resting on the soft pillow as his lips left hers and moved down, kissing her breasts as he pulled the rest of the nightgown off her body. When he got to her center he softly kissed her before pulling the panties off and returning his lips to her. She whimpered when his tongue flicked against her wanting need, and moaned his name as he inserted a finger deep inside to make sure she was ready for him. She was always ready. For him. He pulled off his cotton boxers as he continued to pleasure her before spreading her legs and quickly entering her. She gasped at the quickness of his move and grabbed the cheap plywood headboard behind her, pulling at it as he fucked her. They didn’t speak- not even yes or no-just allowed their bodies to do what they so needed to do and when they came there was no sound, just a mutual feeling of pleasure and then he wrapped his arms around her tightly and nuzzled his head against the back of her neck.

For three weeks she questioned why she was here, all she had to do was look into his eyes and she knew. She knew all that mattered in her life now, at this moment, was him.
